After I had arranged my internship in Aracaju, Brazil, I began planning and preparing. In addition to air tickets, it is necessary to arrange vaccinations, visa and other necessities.
1. AIR TICKETS
I was checking out Skyscanner and Student Agency. The cheapest way to get to Brazil from Prague is through New York, Atlanta or Miami. Alternatively, from Vienna or Madrid to Salvador or Sao Paulo. I had an incredibly long flight, but my priority was to have a flight to Rio de Janeiro. I flew from Prague to Amsterdam with CSA, then to Atlanta and finally to Rio with Delta Airlines.
Atlanta has a huge airport, but you do not have to worry about getting lost. If you have a stop over in the USA, you must have an ESTA visa. This is extremely important, otherwise you will be send back. Check out requirements for your country. The fee is $ 14, the visa shall be handled through the internet and it's purely administrative step. In Amsterdam, I had really tough inspection, they asked about all possible and impossible questions. In Atlanta, the immigration was fine, it went quickly and without any problem. They just asked what I was doing a year in the USA on J1 visa (I was an exchange student).
Domestic flights in Brazil are ok, you will not be controlled again by the immigration officers. Only when entering the country. I flew with TAM airlines, which are among the best.
2. VACCINATION
You should have a vaccination for Hepatitis A and B, tetanus, typhoid, yellow fever, and if you are going inland and in the Amazon, be sure to take anti-malarials. Do not leave vaccination at the last minute, at least one month before departure you need to solve it.
3. INSURANCE OF PERSONAL BELONGINGS AND TRAVEL INSURANCE
Travel insurance is necessary. And since Brazil has a high crime rate, I recommend insurance of personal belongings. You pay almost nothing and you might be grateful in the end.
4. VISA
If your stay is not profitable and does not exceed 90 days, you do not have to worry. Nothing is needed to done. Otherwise, research the current situation and deal with your visa rather sooner than later. I was controlled in Atlanta before boarding the plane, but they just wanted the return e-ticket with departure date.
5. MEDICINE
Medicine such as ibuprofen, Imodium or Strepsils can be found here. You do not need to take it with you. Rather get antibiotics because Brazilian antibiotics might not suit your body. I once took antibiotics in Bulgaria and my body was totally out of control. Then, surely repellent to exotic destinations. In Brazil, there is a risk of dengue mosquitoes, against which there is no cure or vaccine. Simply put, three weeks lying a pain and high fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and it is necessary to visit a doctor. It's not super widespread, but it is good to preventively protect yourself.
6. ADAPTER
Drawers are two plugs with two round holes. If you have an iPhone, charger fits there. But for the notebook, which has a classic Czech round socket, you need an adapter. Otherwise, everything works without problems.
7. BAGGAGE
I recommend a wrapping film, I heard that Brazilian workers at the airport like stealing the stuff from suitcases. Anyway, this will protect it. Otherwise, do not take a lot of things, you are going on holiday, not moving. In addition, particularly in the north it is really warm, so many times you just wear shirt and shorts.
